Job Description

Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a Respiratory Therapist - PRN to provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support for patients of all ages. The role requires effective communication and the ability to perform essential duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to in-patients and out-patients
  • Monitor and wean patients off Oxygen Therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Draw, analyze, and report Arterial Blood Gases and EKGs
  • Assist with changing artificial airways as per physician orders
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Maintain professional certifications and stay updated on technical procedures
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in state of practice
  • Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification (only for NICU therapists)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
