Overview

The Respiratory Therapist role at Ochsner Health System is focused on providing respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support for both in-patients and out-patients across all age groups. The position requires a commitment to patient care and adherence to established policies and procedures while working within a collaborative healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services
  • Monitor and wean patients from oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs
  • Assist with changing artificial airways
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Maintain professional certifications and up-to-date knowledge of technical procedures
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient
  • Attend staff meetings and comply with regulatory standards

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in state of practice
  • Credentialed by National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Computer skills for data entry and patient information retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
