Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a Part-Time Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care treatment and diagnostic testing to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. Responsibilities include setting up and monitoring oxygen therapy, performing arterial blood gas analysis, and educating patients on treatment plans. The role involves working in compliance with established policies and offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on patient care.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to in-patients and out-patients
  • Set up, monitor, and wean patients off oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Perform diagnostic procedures according to established policies
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and accreditation standards
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient

Required skills

  • Associate's Degree in a relevant field
  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (within 90 days of hire)
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
