Job Description

Overview

The Respiratory Therapist at Ochsner Health System plays a vital role in providing respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, and diagnostic testing to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. This full-time position involves monitoring and administering respiratory therapies, performing diagnostic procedures, and educating patients on treatment plans in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to in-patients and out-patients
  • Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Perform arterial blood gas analysis and EKG monitoring
  • Assist with changing of artificial airways
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Maintain professional certifications and up-to-date knowledge of technical procedures
  • Attend staff meetings and complete other related duties as required

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard
