Job Description

Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a New Grad Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care treatment and support services to a diverse patient population, from neonatal to geriatric. The role involves monitoring oxygen therapy, performing diagnostic testing, and assisting with artificial airways in accordance with company policies and physician orders.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to in-patients and out-patients
  • Monitor and wean patients off oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs
  • Assist with changing artificial airways as needed
  • Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Maintain professional certifications and up-to-date knowledge of technical procedures
  • Attend staff meetings and comply with regulatory requirements

Required skills

  • Associate's Degree
  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification (if applicable)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (to be obtained within 90 days of hire)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (to be obtained within 90 days of hire)
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills for data entry and patient information retrieval
