Overview

The Respiratory Therapist position at Ochsner Health System is designed for new graduates and offers an opportunity to provide respiratory care treatment and diagnostic testing to patients of all ages, from neonatal to geriatric. The role involves monitoring oxygen therapy, performing advanced therapeutic procedures, and ensuring compliance with established policies and regulations in a healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to in-patients and out-patients.
  • Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation.
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs.
  • Assist with changing artificial airways as ordered by a physician.
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Attend staff meetings and keep professional knowledge up to date.

Required skills

  • Associate's Degree in a related field
  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification for NICU therapists
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Windows-style applications and data entry
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
