Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a new graduate Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients of all ages. The role involves monitoring oxygen therapy, conducting diagnostic procedures, and educating patients and coworkers on treatment plans, all while adhering to established policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to patients.
  • Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation.
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs.
  • Assist with changing artificial airways as needed.
  • Educate patients and coworkers on procedures and treatment plans.
  • Document all clinical information regarding patients.
  • Maintain professional certifications and knowledge of current procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and accreditation standards.

Required skills

  • Associate's Degree in a related field
  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Credentialed as a Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification (if applicable)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (to be obtained within 90 days of hire)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (to be obtained within 90 days of hire)
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
