Overview

The Respiratory Therapist II - Critical Care Transport at UNC Health provides specialized respiratory care for critically ill patients, particularly within the pediatric population during ground and flight transport. This role is integral to Carolina Air Care, a critical care and emergency transportation agency, maintaining high standards of care and ensuring patient safety during transport.

Key responsibilities

  • Administer standard respiratory care including aerosol medication delivery and oxygen therapy.
  • Perform airway management procedures such as tracheostomy care, intubations, and extubations.
  • Transport pediatric and neonatal patients while delivering respiratory care per protocol.
  • Set up and monitor ventilators, applying appropriate weaning techniques.
  • Maintain and improve job knowledge and skills to serve as a resource for staff.

Required skills

  • Advanced knowledge in respiratory care
  • Experience in NICU and PICU settings
  • ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications
  • Ability to interpret clinical information and document care
  • Mathematical skills for applying fractions, percentages, and ratios
  • Effective communication skills with patients and medical staff
