Job Description

Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a full-time Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support services to a diverse patient population. The role includes monitoring and managing oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation, as well as performing diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas analysis and EKG monitoring.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment to in-patients and out-patients of all ages
  • Set up, monitor, and wean patients off oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures following established policies
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient
  • Adapt communication style to educate patients effectively
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (to be obtained within 90 days of hire)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills for data entry and information retrieval
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications and software specific to the role
  • Effective interpersonal skills
