Job Description

Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a full-time Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients of all ages. This role requires excellent patient interaction and adherence to established policies and procedures while working the night shift at St. Bernard Parish Hospital.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment to in-patients and out-patients
  • Set up, monitor, and wean Oxygen Therapy and Artificial ventilation
  • Draw, analyze, and report Arterial Blood Gases and EKGs
  • Deliver intermittent therapy and assist with changing artificial airways
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Document all clinical information regarding patients
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and standards

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications
