Overview

The Respiratory Therapist at Ochsner Health System plays a critical role in providing respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to a diverse patient population ranging from neonatal to geriatric. This full-time night position requires a commitment to excellent patient care and collaboration with healthcare teams in a dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to in-patients and out-patients.
  • Set up, monitor, and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation.
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs.
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures and routine therapeutic procedures per established policies.
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient.

Required skills

  • Current license as a Respiratory Therapist in Louisiana
  • Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and specific software
  • Interpersonal skills
