Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join their Float Team during night shifts. This role involves providing respiratory care treatment and diagnostic services to a diverse range of patients from neonatal to geriatric, ensuring quality care in all settings.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, and diagnostic testing
  • Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs
  • Educate patients and healthcare teams on procedures and treatment plans
  • Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Document clinical information regarding patient encounters

Required skills

  • Associate's degree in respiratory therapy (Bachelor's preferred)
  • 2 years of respiratory therapy experience
  • Current state license as a respiratory therapist
  • Certification as a respiratory therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Proficiency in using computers and web-based applications
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
