Job Description

Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a Certified Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. This role involves performing essential duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while making a significant impact on patient care.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services
  • Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs
  • Assist with changing of artificial airways
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Document all clinical information regarding patients
  • Maintain professional certifications and knowledge of technical procedures

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification (for NICU therapists)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (to be obtained within 90 days of hire)
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local compliance and accreditation standards
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
