Job Description

Overview

As a Certified Respiratory Therapist at Ochsner Health System, you will provide essential respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support for patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatric. The role involves monitoring oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation, analyzing arterial blood gases and EKGs, and assisting with artificial airways while ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services
  • Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Perform diagnostic procedures and maintain documentation
  • Attend staff meetings and maintain professional certifications

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Computer skills for data entry and patient information retrieval
