Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join their team at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. The role involves performing diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as part of the Respiratory Care Services, primarily focusing on adult patient populations, with an emphasis on compassionate care and teamwork.

Key responsibilities

  • Administer oxygen and aerosolized medications according to physician orders.
  • Perform nasotracheal and artificial airway suctioning.
  • Conduct CPR and bag-mask ventilation.
  • Monitor pulse oximetry and perform arterial blood gas punctures.
  • Conduct diagnostic cardiopulmonary procedures and pulmonary function studies.
  • Ensure the safety and functionality of all equipment and supplies used in patient care.
  • Educate patients, families, and healthcare team members on respiratory care.

Required skills

  • Completion of a 2-year AMA approved respiratory care program.
  • North Carolina State Licensure or Provisional License.
  • Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (if applicable).
  • Knowledge of pharmacological indications and patient interaction.
  • Customer service and communication skills.
