Job Description

Overview

The Respiratory Technician at OhioHealth plays a crucial role in administering diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist patients with their breathing. This position involves evaluating respiratory care, communicating findings to healthcare professionals, and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of treatments provided to patients.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepares for patient treatment by receiving orders from physicians and determining treatment requirements
  • Administers respiratory care procedures including medication nebulization, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, and incentive spirometry
  • Observes and monitors patients during treatments, recording relevant data and notifying medical personnel of any adverse reactions
  • Performs patient assessments and evaluates the appropriateness of care plans
  • Conducts invasive procedures such as suctioning and arterial blood gas sampling
  • Maintains and troubleshoots respiratory care equipment to ensure proper function
  • Focuses on safety, quality, and efficiency in all job duties

Required skills

  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association
  • Enrolled in an accredited respiratory care program
  • Ability to perform patient assessments and develop care plans
  • Experience with administering respiratory care to patients of all ages
  • Knowledge of medical equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Strong healthcare communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a healthcare team
