Job Description

Overview

As an FPGA Design Research Engineer at GE Vernova, you will develop innovative embedded systems for real-time controls and industrial communication applications. This role involves leading R&D projects in collaboration with government agencies and advancing next-generation technologies in energy sectors such as Renewables and Gas Power.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop FPGA solutions for embedded systems and industrial control systems
  • Leverage FPGA design tools to develop, simulate, test, and optimize real-time embedded systems
  • Shape and pursue external opportunities with U.S. government agencies such as DOE and DOD
  • Collaborate with GE businesses to transition prototypes to fieldable systems
  • Engage with universities and commercial partners to advance embedded systems technology
  • Publish technical papers, file patents, and contribute to open-source communities

Required skills

  • Ph.D., Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines
  • 2-5 years of strong FPGA and SoC design experience using Verilog, SystemVerilog, and VHDL
  • Experience with Xilinx and Intel (Altera) FPGA devices and associated tools
  • Understanding of digital logic design, including FSMs and pipelining
  • Experience with RTL simulation, synthesis, and timing closure
  • Knowledge of clock domain crossing (CDC) techniques
  • Familiarity with high-speed interfaces like UART, SPI, Ethernet, and PCIe
  • Experience developing testbenches and functional verification
  • Proficiency with on-chip debugging tools and version control systems (Git preferred)
  • Experience with high-level synthesis (HLS) tools and MATLAB/Simulink
  • Embedded programming skills in languages such as C/C++, Python
  • Experience with Linux build systems and kernel development
