Job Description

Overview

The Relay Technician Trainee at PacifiCorp will undergo hands-on training and formal coursework to develop foundational skills in substation equipment and systems. This position involves mentorship from experienced technicians and aims to prepare the trainee for a journeyman-level role in supporting the reliable operation of protection, control, and metering systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Attend technician training schools to learn relay standards and theory
  • Assist and complete work under the direction of Relay Technicians
  • Keep records and files of work performed and reports on outages
  • Participate in diagnostic and analytical testing of substation equipment
  • Operate substation equipment in accordance with safety protocols
  • Respond to emergency conditions and maintain assigned tools and equipment

Required skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certification in an electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Internet)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage workload and use computerized test program
  • Good driving record and ability to obtain a CDL
  • Strong ability to follow safety policies and procedures
  • Passed relay seminar exam
