Overview

The Rehearsal Director at Boston Ballet is a full-time seasonal role responsible for working closely with various departments to ensure the artistic integrity of performances. This position focuses on training and developing artists, teaching classes, and staging ballets while fostering a commitment to diversity and inclusion within the company.

Key responsibilities

  • Teach company class, pointe class, and Boston Ballet II class
  • Rehearse, set, and stage ballets as directed by the Artistic Director
  • Assist guest stagers and choreographers with staging ballets
  • Plan overall season schedules with the Artistic Department
  • Assist with role assignments and casting
  • Critique dancer performances during shows
  • Support the learning and development of dancers
  • Resolve scheduling issues and address emergency problems at the theater
  • Participate in the annual artist evaluation process
  • Attend Production meetings and company tours as needed
  • Act as an Ambassador for Boston Ballet and participate in media and events

Required skills

  • Previous experience as a professional dancer with a major ballet company
  • Rehearsal Director experience in an academic, classical ballet company
  • Coaching experience for principal dancers
  • Extensive knowledge of pointe work and classical ballet repertoire
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills
  • Collaborative work ethic

  • Open-mindedness and ability to learn
  • Dedication to the advancement of dancers and dance
