Overview

The Real Estate Controller - Multifamily role at CFS in Houston involves managing high-impact financial operations related to acquisitions, dispositions, and financing transactions. The position includes direct interaction with ownership, investors, and lenders, providing opportunities to influence financial processes and reporting across the portfolio.

Key responsibilities

  • Review funding requests to investors and lenders; coordinate approvals for reserves and write-offs.
  • Ensure accounting records and financial reports are accurate, timely, and compliant with GAAP.
  • Perform general ledger review and analysis; oversee month-end and quarter-end close processes.
  • Review and prepare Property/Development Management Fees and Construction Management Fees.
  • Review monthly and quarterly financial statements and supporting schedules in collaboration with teams.
  • Research accounting guidance and draft position memos for complex transactions.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting policies.
  • Support Asset Management and Property Management with annual budgets and reconciliations.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • Strong background in real estate, development, or construction accounting
  • Experience with complex transactions (debt, acquisitions/dispositions, interest capitalization)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Argus experience a plus
  • Detail-oriented with cross-functional collaboration skills
