Overview

The Rapid Response Respiratory Therapist at Ochsner Health System provides essential respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients of various ages, from neonates to geriatrics. This role requires a dedication to patient care and adherence to established policies and procedures, ensuring high standards of health service delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services
  • Perform diagnostic procedures including arterial blood gases and EKGs
  • Educate patients and co-workers on treatment procedures and plans
  • Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient
  • Adapt communication style and procedures based on patient needs
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and accreditation standards

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval
  • Proficiency in Windows-style applications and relevant software
