Overview

The Rapid Response Respiratory Therapist at Ochsner Health System is responsible for providing respiratory care, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients of all ages. This role emphasizes the importance of skilled respiratory treatment in both inpatient and outpatient settings, contributing significantly to patient care within the healthcare system.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to patients
  • Monitor and wean patients off Oxygen Therapy and Artificial ventilation
  • Draw, analyze, and report Arterial Blood Gases and EKGs
  • Assist with the changing of artificial airways
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Maintain professional certifications and stay updated on technical procedures
  • Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policies
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient
  • Comply with federal, state, and local laws and accreditation standards

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills for data entry and patient information retrieval
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications
