Overview

The Radiological Control Technician 4/5 at Los Alamos National Laboratory will support various radiological work activities, ensuring safe operations through the application of radiation protection principles. The position requires engagement with critical Laboratory missions and offers an opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple facilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide radiological job coverage and support field implementation of the Radiation Protection Program
  • Perform workplace radiological surveys and document radiological data
  • Implement radiation monitoring, contamination control, and personnel exposure controls
  • Support execution of radiation work permits and other radiological work documents
  • Assist and mentor less experienced RCTs in radiological protection practices
  • Collaborate with multiple work groups to ensure safe and compliant operations
  • Serve as the primary Radiation Protection point of contact for radiological work activities (for level 5)
  • Support job planning, coordinate resources, and resolve complex radiological issues (for level 5)
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight to less experienced RCTs (for level 5)

Required skills

  • High school diploma
  • 5+ years of related experience for level 4; 6+ years for level 5
  • Senior-level knowledge of radiation protection principles and practices
  • Experience in radiation monitoring, contamination control, and personnel exposure management
  • Effective communication of radiological safety concepts
  • Ability to conduct investigations and resolve radiological safety issues
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
  • Proficiency with computer-based office applications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience for level 5
  • Problem-solving and planning capabilities
