Job Description

Overview

Duke Health is seeking a dedicated Radiation Therapist to join their team at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. This role involves administering ionizing radiation to patients while ensuring their safety and comfort during the treatment process under the supervision of the Chief Therapist and Radiation Oncologist.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver prescribed radiation therapy with minimal supervision
  • Check patient identification and prescriptions before treatment
  • Explain procedures to patients and ensure communication during treatment
  • Prepare treatment room and equipment according to specifications
  • Transfer patients safely to treatment couches while handling medical devices
  • Maintain communication with patients and monitor for reactions
  • Assist in tumor localization and dosimetry procedures
  • Perform daily quality assurance and equipment checks
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement activities
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new staff

Required skills

  • Completion of a relevant course in radiology technology or radiation therapy technology
  • One year of clinical training in Radiation Therapy
  • Current licensure and ARRT certification in radiation therapy
  • Knowledge of ionizing radiographic equipment and radiation therapy practices
  • Ability to administer CPR in medical emergencies
