Job Description

Overview

Avantor is seeking a QC Cell Culture Scientist (Biologist) to provide technical expertise in cell culture, biocompatibility, and in vitro cytotoxicity testing for silicone materials in medical device applications. The role involves executing and troubleshooting in vitro methods while ensuring compliance with established procedures in laboratory settings.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage biological testing activities and the lifecycle of experimental samples from receipt through final disposition.
  • Independently perform complex cytotoxicity and biological testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and final products.
  • Analyze data, interpret results, prepare technical reports, and maintain documentation.
  • Perform cell culture activities and biological assays, including maintenance of mammalian cell cultures.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot unexpected results from laboratory analyses.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to laboratory personnel.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to provide scientific support and technical consultation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve laboratory methods and processes.

Required skills

  • AS or BS in Biological Sciences or related program
  • 3+ years of cell culturing and assay experience (if AS) or 1+ year (if BS)
  • Experience in analytical, biological, biotechnology, biomedical, and related laboratory environments
  • Mammalian cell culture techniques
  • Biological, biochemical, and cell-based assays
  • Laboratory equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Data analysis and technical reporting
  • Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
  • Experience with polymers, elastomers, silicones, or related materials (preferred)
  • Computer skills including Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of silicone chemistry (preferred)
  • Practical application of internal software like Oracle Agile PLM and SAP (preferred)
