Job Description

Overview

The Purchasing Manager at Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) will oversee the procurement of materials, equipment, supplies, and services, ensuring the lowest costs while maintaining quality and service standards. This position plays a critical role in negotiating agreements with vendors and optimizing inventory levels to support the company's mission of exceeding customer expectations.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide departmental leadership and management
  • Develop and publish purchasing procedures for cost-effective techniques
  • Purchase materials, equipment, supplies, and services at the lowest cost while ensuring quality
  • Negotiate strategic supply/service agreements and reduce supplier base
  • Assist mill customers in maintaining optimal material inventory levels
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 principles
  • Formulate purchase/service agreements and achieve consistent cost reductions
  • Implement and support Corporate supply/service agreements for mill participation

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in business or procurement preferred
  • Minimum three years' experience in purchasing or manufacturing, preferably in the paper industry
  • Strong project management and negotiation skills
  • High level of computer proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Ability to learn purchasing software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple requests
  • Willingness to travel as necessary
