Overview

The Purchasing Agent at Trumark Companies is vital in overseeing construction activities for single and multi-family residential homes. This role involves managing bidding processes, contract negotiations, and maintaining product specifications, budget updates, and jobsite variances. The ideal candidate is independent, enjoys tackling complex transactions, and possesses a strong background in construction and project management.

Key responsibilities

  • Main point of contact for bidding and contracting all trades.
  • Responsible for bidding, negotiating, and hiring trade contractors.
  • Communicate proactively with Project Management regarding plans and bids.
  • Prepare Preliminary Product Specifications for new projects.
  • Calculate and maintain material take-offs.
  • Analyze bids to ensure completeness and comparability.
  • Negotiate contracts for best pricing and performance.
  • Review new products and identify quality and cost opportunities.
  • Attend model walks and communicate design changes.
  • Mentor and train Assistant Purchasing Agents.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Construction Management, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of construction experience with a production homebuilder.
  • Strong knowledge of general contract terms and residential construction.
  • Technologically savvy with learning aptitude for software.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints and conduct take-offs and estimates.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications and builder's software like Build Pro and Newstar.
