Job Description

Overview

The Property Accountant at Wallick Communities will be responsible for managing financial statements for assigned communities, performing data analysis, and ensuring accurate reporting through reconciliations and variance analysis. This role emphasizes collaboration with external partners and contributes to Wallick's mission of providing affordable housing.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform all accounting journal entries and analyze financial information for 30 properties monthly.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and maintain supporting schedules for balance sheet accounts.
  • Review income statement accounts to ensure compliance with GAAP and HUD standards.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
  • Communicate with lenders, syndicators, investors, and regulatory agencies on reporting inquiries.
  • Review audits and tax returns for assigned sites.
  • Assist in annual budgeting for the properties.
  • Learn about complex accounting transactions such as acquisitions and refinancing.
  • Help ensure internal controls and efficiency in accounting processes.
  • Oversee interns and assist with other related duties as needed.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or real estate or equivalent experience of 5+ years
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient in Excel and accounting software
  • Ability to record journal entries and analyze financial statements
  • Basic knowledge of HUD laws, tax credits, public housing, and construction accounting
  • Effective communication skills with ability to interact with external stakeholders
