Job Description

Overview

A.O. Hardee and Son, Inc. is seeking a Project Estimator in Little River, South Carolina, to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy highway and civil construction projects. The role involves analyzing project documentation, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring estimates reflect current market conditions and company capabilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret contract documents including engineering plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates using HCSS software
  • Perform quantity take-off analysis utilizing AGTEK
  • Solicit and analyze supplier and subcontractor proposals
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Attend jobsite walkthroughs and pre-bid meetings as necessary
  • Prepare preliminary project schedules
  • Prepare risk assessment analysis
  • Work in a team environment, assisting and coordinating with other estimators
  • Ensure accurate and complete estimates of projects are prepared on time and in a professional manner
  • Interface professionally with clients
  • Additional responsibilities as directed by Chief Operations Officer

Required skills

  • 5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil earthwork projects
  • Strong mathematical and computer skills
  • Experience in preparing hard-bid public and private market cost proposals
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building Construction, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet bid deadlines
  • Understanding of construction processes and sequencing
  • Proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid or similar estimating software
  • Skills in Microsoft Office, AGTEK, Auto-CAD, and Trimble Business Center preferred
  • Active driver's license with clean driving record
