Job Description

Overview

The Project Archivist for the Houghton Family Papers at The Corning Museum of Glass is a one-year position focused on arranging and describing significant collections related to the Houghton family. The role also involves assessing conservation needs and promoting accessibility and engagement with the collection through various educational tools.

Key responsibilities

  • Arrange materials by existing order or develop logical series and sub-series.
  • Work closely with the Supervisor, Archives and Manuscript Collections for arrangement and description.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Supervisor.
  • Rehouse materials and perform routine preservation actions.
  • Identify sensitive information for restriction and remove extraneous and duplicate materials.
  • Create finding aids and agent records in ArchivesSpace.
  • Assist with the transport of collection materials.
  • Support the preservation of the collection through proper handling and storage.
  • Enhance discovery of the Houghton Collection through social media and research guides.
  • Actively support the Museum's commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.

Required skills

  • ALA-accredited master's degree or relevant archival processing experience.
  • 1-2 years of processing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of archival standards and best practices, including DACS and MPLP.
  • Proficiency with ArchivesSpace.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and cloud services.
  • Ability to innovate and adapt to change.
