Job Description

Overview

The Project Archivist for the Houghton Family Papers at The Corning Museum of Glass is a one-year position responsible for arranging and describing significant collections related to the Houghton Family. This role also involves identifying conservation needs and enhancing access to these collections through various outreach efforts.

Key responsibilities

  • Arrange materials by existing order and develop logical series for collection management
  • Provide regular progress updates to Archives Supervisor
  • Perform routine preservation actions while arranging materials
  • Identify sensitive information for restriction and remove extraneous materials
  • Create finding aids and agent records in ArchivesSpace
  • Assist with the transport of collection materials and participate in meetings
  • Support preservation practices for special collections
  • Enhance discovery of the Houghton Collection through social media and research guides
  • Support the Museum's commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion

Required skills

  • ALA-accredited master's degree with coursework in archives preferred
  • 1-2 years processing experience preferred
  • Knowledge of DACS and MPLP-informed description
  • Proficiency with ArchivesSpace and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to learn job-related software and services
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects
