Overview

The Program Director for Surgical Technology & Surgical First Assistant Programs at Chattanooga College provides academic leadership and program development to ensure student success and compliance with accreditation standards. This role includes curriculum oversight, clinical affiliation development, and instructional delivery, with a focus on preparing students for certification and careers in surgical settings.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide academic leadership and oversight to Surgical Technology and Surgical First Assistant students
  • Lead development and implementation of programs in alignment with institutional goals and accreditation standards
  • Oversee curriculum design and instructional delivery
  • Manage surgical skills labs and simulation experiences
  • Establish clinical affiliation agreements with healthcare facilities
  • Ensure students achieve required clinical case logs and competencies
  • Chair the Program Advisory Committee to align curriculum with employer needs
  • Prepare students for national certification exams
  • Implement educational technologies to support student success
  • Lead accreditation activities and maintain compliance with standards
  • Support student retention and provide referrals for academic challenges
  • Collaborate with institutional administration for program growth

Required skills

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Expertise in surgical procedures and sterile technique
  • Experience in surgical technology or surgical assisting (minimum of five years)
  • Current or prior certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) and/or Surgical First Assistant (CSFA)
  • Teaching experience in a postsecondary or clinical education setting
  • Ability to manage clinical partnerships and healthcare relationships
  • Experience with LMS, SIS, and healthcare education technologies
  • Organizational and program management capabilities
