Job description: Our client is a financial technology company that operates a SaaS platform and B2B marketplace, helping global banks and financial institutions optimize their balance sheets and reduce regulatory risk.This position will own, lead, and shape the accounting function for a capital markets (CM) business. The role is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of the firm's trading and capital markets activity including trade accounting, regulatory capital, and counterparty/collateral positions and for setting the strategicdirection of the systems and controls that support it. In this high-impact, high-visibility role, the Controller will engage closely with senior leadership and provide guidance on significant and technical accounting matters specific to capital markets products. The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting professional with substantive capital markets or broker-dealer accounting depth a high-level, independent thinker who values impact over effort. The Controller will report to the CFO .Responsibilities- Own and scale the accounting function supporting the firm's capitalmarkets business, including trade accounting, P&L substantiation,and reconciliation with front-office and trading teams- Provide technical accounting leadership on complex capital marketsmatters, including revenue recognition, derivatives and financialinstruments accounting, and consolidation- Oversee regulatory capital calculations and required filings (e.g.,net capital, FOCUS, or comparable regulatory reporting),coordinating with Compliance and Legal as needed- Own accounting for collateral, margin, and counterparty cashmanagement related to trading activity- Oversee delivery of regular and ad hoc financial reporting andstatements to the Executive Team, Board of Directors, other internalstakeholders, investors, and auditors- Ensure accuracy of historical financial records in accordance withGAAP, and support implementation of new accounting standardsaffecting capital markets products- Set the strategic direction for financial systems and procedures including trading and portfolio systems to ensure properautomation, auditability, and controls- Oversee tax and treasury functions; support outside accountants andcounsel on required tax filings and optimize treasury operations- Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and relevantregulators- Develop, implement, and maintain internal control guidelines,policies, and procedures- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and foreign regulatoryrequirements and professional standardsQualifications- 8+ years of experience in accounting/finance, with meaningfulexperience at a broker-dealer, bank, or capital markets-focusedfinancial institution- Current or former product controllers are strongly preferred- Strong knowledge of GAAP, including financial instruments andderivatives accounting; CPA strongly preferred- Experience with regulatory capital and reporting requirements (e.g.,net capital rules, FOCUS filings) strongly preferred- Results-oriented leader with the ability to balance multiplecompeting priorities in a fast-paced environment- A strategic, analytical thinker with an ownership mentality andexcellent communication skills- Experience with NetSuite or a similar ERP; experience with Enfusionor other trading/portfolio systems preferred- Demonstrated experience independently identifying and drivingprocess improvementsThis position is based in New York City. Due to the highly collaborativenature of the business, professionals are expected to be on site Mondaythrough Friday.
