Job Description

Overview

The Pretreatment Coordinator at the City of North Kansas City is responsible for managing the Industrial Pretreatment Program and overseeing laboratory operations to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. This role involves permitting, compliance monitoring, laboratory testing, and data management, as well as coordinating with various stakeholders to protect the city's wastewater treatment systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Administer the City's EPA-approved Industrial Pretreatment Program
  • Oversee all aspects of industrial user permitting, compliance monitoring, and enforcement
  • Conduct inspections and compliance assessments of industrial facilities
  • Coordinate laboratory analyses and review analytical data for accuracy
  • Prepare annual pretreatment reports and other regulatory documents
  • Investigate unauthorized discharges and implement enforcement actions
  • Train and supervise laboratory staff on analytical methods and quality assurance practices
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with industrial users and regulatory agencies
  • Assist with the development of local limits and program policies
  • Collaborate on budget development for pretreatment program

Required skills

  • Bachelor's or associate's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field
  • Ability to obtain a Class C Wastewater License within one year
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local pretreatment regulations
  • Experience in wastewater treatment and laboratory operations
  • Proficiency in computer software including spreadsheets and word processing
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform inspections and evaluate industrial processes
  • Understanding of analysis methods for wastewater characteristics and pollution prevention
