Overview

The City of Essex Junction is looking for a caring and enthusiastic Preschool Assistant Teacher to support its child-centered preschool program. This role is vital for creating a safe and engaging learning environment for young children, assisting with daily classroom operations and educational activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Support daily classroom activities, including play-based learning and group activities
  • Assist children with basic needs such as meals, dressing, and toileting/diapering
  • Help teach foundational skills including colors, shapes, numbers, letters, hygiene, and social development
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment
  • Supervise children at all times and ensure their safety and well-being
  • Guide behavior and reinforce classroom expectations positively and consistently
  • Read to children and engage small and large groups in learning activities
  • Help plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities
  • Monitor and communicate concerns about children's development, behavior, or health
  • Maintain required staff-to-child ratios and support overall classroom structure
  • Communicate daily with families about their child's experience
  • Assist with special events such as open houses and family programs
  • Complete incident reports and maintain confidentiality
  • Attend required staff meetings and professional development trainings
  • Contribute as a member of the EJRP team
