Overview

The Police Officer (Secret Service Police) Counter Sniper role is a specialized position within the U.S. Secret Service that offers long-range observation and tactical support for protective details. Candidates should possess a strong sense of duty and the drive to maintain the safety of key government representatives and locations.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide protection for the White House Complex, Vice President's Residence, and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C.
  • Support Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state missions through travel.
  • Enforce protective responsibilities as mandated under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.

Required skills

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Current valid U.S. driver's license
  • Ability to carry and use a firearm with mandatory proficiency
  • Uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular, corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better
  • Hearing loss not exceeding 25 decibels in specified frequency ranges
  • Passing a drug test and undergoing random drug testing
  • Completion of 12 weeks of CS Selection and Basic Training
  • 12 weeks of training at FLETC and 17 weeks of specialized training at James J. Rowley Training Center
