Overview

Kalamazoo Mechanical, Inc. is seeking skilled plumbers and pipefitters to join their commercial HVAC construction team. The role requires the ability to perform at a second year pipefitter level or higher, focusing on quality work and collaboration within the team.

Key responsibilities

  • Interpret and analyze blueprints to determine layout and installation procedures
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe using hand and power tools
  • Assemble and secure pipes and fittings according to specifications
  • Conduct tests to ensure systems are leak-free and operational
  • Install and maintain piping systems for heating, cooling, and other fluids
  • Inspect and maintain installed systems for functionality and safety compliance
  • Collaborate with project managers and tradespeople for efficient installations
  • Apply building codes and safety regulations to ensure compliance
  • Troubleshoot and repair system faults and leaks
  • Document completed installations and repairs
  • Safely operate and maintain pipefitting tools and equipment
  • Coordinate with procurement teams for sourcing materials

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification from a recognized pipefitting or plumbing program
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a pipefitter or similar role
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical specifications
  • Strong knowledge of pipe systems and materials including copper, PVC, and stainless steel
  • Experience with pipefitting tools like pipe cutters and welders
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical stamina to work in confined spaces or at heights
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including overtime and weekends
