Overview

As a Plant Mechanic I/II at Fairfax Water, you will perform a variety of mechanical maintenance tasks in a water treatment plant. This role involves assisting with the repair, maintenance, and operation of specialized equipment, as well as ensuring the upkeep of the plant's facilities and grounds.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist higher-level plant mechanics with maintenance and repair of plant processing equipment.
  • Perform plumbing, pipefitting, and welding tasks.
  • Conduct preventive and condition-based maintenance on plant equipment.
  • Handle and transport hazardous materials safely.
  • Maintain grounds and facilities, including snow removal and custodial functions.
  • Operate various machinery, such as backhoes and forklifts.
  • Provide detailed records of work performed, materials used, and costs.

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one-year mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of plant maintenance methods, materials, and tools.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Capacity to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical labor.
