Job Description

Overview

The Planner II position with the City of Greenville involves providing advanced technical assistance and analysis for city planning initiatives and land development applications. This role includes processing land development applications, preparing planning documents, and offering support to various city boards and the public, all while reporting to the Assistant Director of Community & Development Services.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance and analysis for land development applications
  • Prepare plans, reports, studies, and analyses related to planning concerns
  • Assist the public and provide staff support to city boards and commissions
  • Review and process planning activities such as rezonings and site plans
  • Administer review of Certificates of Appropriateness and facade improvement grants
  • Utilize GIS for data retrieval and presentations
  • Assist in pursuing grants related to Division responsibilities
  • Respond to inquiries regarding historic preservation practices and zoning
  • Write and present technical reports and ordinances
  • Coordinate the development and drafting of planning documents
  • Conduct research and develop reports on land use issues

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, public administration, or related field
  • Three or more years of experience in urban planning or related field, or
  • Master's degree in urban planning, public administration, or related field with two years of experience
  • Knowledge of urban planning principles and practices
  • Understanding of land use concepts and annexation problems
  • Skilled in preparing charts, graphs, and maps
  • Ability to conduct complex planning studies and formulate recommendations
  • Valid driver's license (Class C) and acceptable driving record
  • Certified Zoning Officer (CZO) certification or ability to obtain within one year
