Job Description

Overview

NY CREATES is seeking a Photonics Development Engineer to contribute to silicon photonics technology platforms as part of AIM Photonics' research and development programs. The role involves developing technologies in a CMOS line, engaging with partners, and focusing on projects related to quantum photonics and sensor development.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop new technologies in a 300 mm CMOS line
  • Design experiments to understand photonics and cleanroom processing
  • Engage with customers to understand project requirements and provide updates
  • Write reports, papers, and patents
  • Perform design rule checking and waiver reviews
  • Handle third-party design IP
  • Collect and analyze measurement, metrology, and inline test data
  • Coordinate with vendors for dicing, packaging, and outsourced processes
  • Submit process/measurement change requests and participate in review boards
  • Participate in sustainability and continuous improvement activities
  • Collaborate with integration team members
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned

Required skills

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering or Science discipline
  • 5+ years relevant professional experience (or 3+ years with Ph.D.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Flexibility and ability to learn quickly
  • Experience in CMOS Process Integration
  • Familiarity with PIC/IC layout and verification tools
  • Background in modeling or device physics of photonic devices
  • Experience in multiple sectors of process development
  • Materials characterization and metrology knowledge
  • Photonic/electronic test and characterization experience
