Overview

Duke Health is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician I/II for the Pediatric Sterile Preparations team at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. The role involves preparing and dispensing medications under the supervision of a pharmacist, particularly focusing on sterile products like intravenous admixtures and chemotherapy.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare intravenous admixtures and other sterile products including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition.
  • Fill physician orders, medication carts, or stock requisitions.
  • Assist with cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of compounding equipment.
  • Provide technical support for automated equipment.
  • Maintain logs, records and other required documentation.
  • Complete assigned medication storage area inspections and monitor quality improvement indicators.
  • Stock medications and supplies; package medications for dispensing.

Required skills

  • Knowledge of drug names and medical terminology
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Ability to compound medications and admix intravenous products under supervision
  • Understanding of inventory management practices
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and establish effective working relationships
