Overview

The Personal Injury Billing and Collections Representative plays a critical role in managing the entire billing and collections process for personal injury medical claims at Progressive Spine and Orthopaedics LLC. This position requires strong experience in handling liens, settlements, and communications with attorneys, insurance companies, and patients to recover outstanding medical balances related to personal injury cases.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of billing, collections, lien follow-up, and settlement recovery for personal injury medical claims
  • Monitor and follow up on outstanding personal injury accounts, liens, and settlement-related balances
  • Communicate with attorneys, law firms, insurance adjusters, providers, and patients regarding case status and payment updates
  • Ensure accurate billing for injury-related services and submit itemized bills, medical records, and supporting documentation
  • Negotiate lien reductions and escalate delayed or disputed accounts to management
  • Investigate unpaid or disputed personal injury balances and negotiate reimbursement
  • Maintain professional communication with patients and assist with their inquiries about billing
  • Document and report on collection activities, settlement updates, and lien negotiations
  • Review received payments and reconcile them against outstanding personal injury balances

Required skills

  • 3-5 years of medical billing and collections experience
  • Strong personal injury billing and collections experience
  • Experience with attorneys, liens, Letters of Protection, and third-party liability claims
  • Understanding of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, EOBs, itemized statements, and medical documentation
  • Technical proficiency with medical billing software, EHR systems, and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
  • Analytical and detail-oriented problem-solving skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in related field preferred
