Overview

The Payroll Clerk at Harmon Scrap Metal LLC functions as the first and last point of contact for customers and drivers at the scrap yard. This role involves weighing trucks, entering information accurately, and ensuring smooth traffic flow in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail is crucial.

Key responsibilities

  • Weigh all inbound and outbound loads using the scale system
  • Enter customer info, material types, and weights into the system accurately
  • Print and process scale tickets and receipts
  • Direct drivers where to go and keep traffic moving safely
  • Communicate with yard operators and office staff throughout the day
  • Answer phones and assist customers at the scale window
  • Handle payments and balance transactions if assigned
  • Keep paperwork organized and up to date
  • Watch for discrepancies in loads or tickets and report issues
  • Follow all safety rules and company procedures
  • Perform general housekeeping and attend internal meetings
  • Complete required training and other related duties as assigned by management

Required skills

  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn scale software
  • Strong communication skills
  • Previous scale house or trucking experience (preferred but not required)
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic math and account reconciliation skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing transportation weights and scrap metal purchasing
