Overview

The Paint Lead at Johnson Thermal Systems is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring daily painting operations run smoothly and to high standards. This position involves training team members, managing workflow, and ensuring all safety and quality protocols are adhered to in the paint department.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the work of painters on the production floor
  • Schedule and prioritize painting tasks to meet production deadlines
  • Perform complex painting tasks using HVLP spray guns
  • Train, coach, and mentor junior painters and new team members
  • Monitor painting operations for defects and correct them
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and delivery standards
  • Review and approve team members' timecards
  • Conduct performance evaluations and manage disciplinary actions
  • Develop and implement SOPs for the paint department
  • Collaborate with other departments on production schedules
  • Complete and verify quality checklists at each stage of the painting process
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of industrial or commercial painting experience
  • Proficiency in HVLP spray painting and surface preparation
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Leadership experience in a production or metal fabrication environment
  • Knowledge of safety protocols related to painting operations
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs and push/pull 100 lbs
  • Comfortable working from ladders up to 20 feet
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
