Overview

NY CREATES is seeking a Packaging Process Engineer to join their AIM Photonics team. This role focuses on the assembly of optoelectronic packages using advanced solder interconnect equipment and materials, contributing to significant cutting-edge projects aimed at enhancing R&D in emerging technologies.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop wire bonding and interconnect processes for electronic packages
  • Run DOE experiments to optimize machine parameters for package builds
  • Evaluate and qualify materials for electronic and optoelectronic packages
  • Utilize high precision equipment to ensure solder interconnect integrity
  • Perform continuous inspection and characterization of processes
  • Serve as liaison with marketing, vendors, and customers on technical issues
  • Interpret failure analysis reports to assess solder joint integrity
  • Analyze data and conduct root cause analysis to improve yields and performance

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Material Science, or Engineering Physics
  • 3+ years of experience in fabrication, packaging, or manufacturing of semiconductor devices
  • Experience with wire bonding or fiber attach for photonics assembly
  • Knowledge of back-end assembly processes including flip-chip and solder reflow
  • Experience with failure analysis of solder joints
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in cleanroom and high precision equipment inspection
