Job Description

Overview

Join Interstate Waste Services as an Overnight Diesel Mechanic, where you'll utilize your skills in diesel mechanics to maintain and repair heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. This role is critical to ensuring the safety and effectiveness of our fleet as we serve a diverse range of customers across Northern New Jersey and Southern New York State.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform inspection, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections (PMI) and troubleshoot vehicle issues
  • Complete paperwork using fleet maintenance software for vehicle repairs and parts usage
  • Assist in the repair and adjustment of equipment and conduct safety checks on vehicles
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA standards
  • Provide service calls for breakdowns and wash vehicles and equipment

Required skills

  • 2+ years of experience as a heavy-duty Diesel Mechanic
  • Experience with hydraulics and engine/transmission maintenance and repairs
  • Familiarity with diagnostic software (e.g. Premium Tech Tool, Allison transmission, Cummins, Peterbilt, Paccar)
  • Knowledge of chassis component repairs including air brake systems and suspension
  • Ability to maintain and repair exhaust systems with DPF systems
  • Must have own tools and a valid driver's license
