Overview

Barbour Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is seeking an experienced Orthopedics Physician Assistant to join their growing team in Houston, Texas. This role involves providing high-level patient care as an extension of the physician, including conducting evaluations, formulating treatment plans, and assisting in surgical procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic testing.
  • Formulate treatment plans in collaboration with supervising orthopedic physicians.
  • Order, interpret, and review diagnostic studies (X-rays, MRI, CT, labs, etc.).
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient care, education, and follow-up.
  • Assist surgeons in the operating room, including first assist duties.
  • Perform procedures such as joint injections, wound care, casting, splinting, and suturing.
  • Manage both inpatient and outpatient orthopedic cases.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and in a timely manner within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Participate in patient education, counseling, and care coordination.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of orthopedic best practices, guidelines, and standards.

Required skills

  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Program
  • NCCPA certified
  • Active Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in orthopaedics, urgent care, sports medicine, or related field
