Overview

The On-Road Compactor Repair Technician at Interstate Waste Services is a mobile field service role responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of compactors, containers, and waste handling equipment at customer sites. The technician will work independently, manage installations, troubleshoot issues, and ensure safe operations of equipment while interfacing with customers.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform on-site installations of compactors, including leveling and basic wiring or hydraulic connections.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and service calls for compactors and waste handling systems.
  • Interface with customers to confirm placement and functionality of installed equipment.
  • Coordinate with dispatch and shop teams for equipment delivery and site access.
  • Test all components post-installation to ensure functionality and safety compliance.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in the field.
  • Document work performed and customer concerns using service tickets.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of company truck and tools.
  • Follow all safety protocols while working at various sites.
  • Maintain professional communication and practices at customer locations.

Required skills

  • 2+ years of experience in field service, mechanical installation, or compactor repair
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic systems and basic electrical components
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical manuals
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Strong problem-solving skills and customer-focused mindset
  • DOT certification, forklift experience, or welding background is a plus
