Overview

The Oceanographer/Meteorologist role in the US Navy involves serving as a geophysical expert, applying knowledge of meteorology, oceanography, hydrography, and related fields to support Navy operations. Officers will work in a variety of challenging environments, providing crucial environmental data that ensures freedom of navigation and effectiveness in military operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, processing, prediction, exploitation, and dissemination of environmental data.
  • Ensure safety of navigation and provide access to denied waters.
  • Lead teams ranging from small units to large commands.
  • Serve as a geophysical expert at operational commands.
