Overview

The US Navy is seeking an Oceanographer/Meteorologist who will serve as a geophysical expert, applying knowledge of meteorology, oceanography, and environmental sciences to ensure the Navy's operational effectiveness. This role involves leadership in collecting and analyzing environmental data to support fleet and joint operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, processing, prediction, and dissemination of environmental data.
  • Ensure safety of navigation and freedom of maneuver for Navy forces.
  • Lead teams of varying sizes, from small detachments to large commands.
  • Serve as the sole geophysical expert at an operational command.
  • Perform duties at sea and ashore including various challenging assignments.

Required skills

  • Degree in a technical field such as physics, oceanography, meteorology, or engineering.
  • Completion of calculus and physics coursework.
  • Eligibility for sea duty and Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience in data analysis and environmental science.
